Founder of Zurich Glass School and teaching exclusively online for ZGS we would like to present master flameworker Dr Julie Anne Denton from Isle of Man / Switzerland. Dr Julie has been educated in the Italian school of flameworking and holds her PhD in the combination of lampworked glass with the hot glass process of sandcasting. This beginner course is designed for beginners in sculpting off-mandrel forms in soft glass.
This class has been created to gently introduce the sculptural beginner to quirky off mandrel forms in soft glass from the comfort of their own studio. We will learn how to make penguins, elephants, owls, fish and flamingos. These forms will teach the student a variety of techniques including how to ‘gather’, how to work with scissors and scaled up ‘mashers’, how to make use of the ‘glass tripod’ to create a stand for your animal and when to use ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ punties during the making process whilst ‘auto-annealing’ your soft glass sculptures. By the end of these video tutorials you will feel comfortable and confident making your own original small scale sculptures in soft glass without the cracks. Although these creatures can also be created in borosilicate glass too using the same techniques!
Please remember, what we are creating is tricky and takes A LOT of practice, logic, patience and an inquiring mind. This E-course is a stand-alone course which is complimented by by Julie 1: Christmas decorations – Learning Heat Control and Julie 2: Sculpting the figure courses. Our Julie 1: Animals course will push your skill level, help you understand tricky design techniques and give you confidence in your own glass making abilities whilst empowering you to own your creativity.
You will also receive a 30-minute complimentary online one-on-one consultation with ZGS founder Dr Julie Anne Denton to help you with the tricky bits, whilst receiving personal help and encouragement with the projects. It is advisable to use this consultation as our participants find them invaluable.
