This E-course channel is designed for beginners in sculpting off-mandrel in order to get a deeper understanding of how to control the heat in borosilicate glass

This course will build upon your personal understanding of how the heat and the glass work together to gently develop your skill level in the comfort of your own studio. In this E_course you will learn how to make simple flat twisted and tapered forms, filigrana cane simple and tough, zanfirico simple and tough, perfectly concentric dots and variants on the original shapes we introduce.  These forms will teach you a variety of techniques. The class allows you to work in a creative way with colour on clear borosilicate. You will learn how to encase clear rod and twist and shape in the flame to create an icicle with a loop/bail to hang from. Loop exercises are set and once both design and loops are mastered we delve into the use of stripes twisted on the outside of the icicle leading to the making of a variety of different types of ‘filigrana’ and 'zanfirico' cane in the Italian style. We will look at a number of design types with colour. The most important technique you will learn on this workshop is how to use heat to control (to your best advantage) and pull glass uniformly. By the end of the workshop participants will have many beautiful creations for home or as gifts.

Class includes:

Six video tutorials which should take four weeks to complete if you include your practising time. This course includes how to make loops / bails, simple flat twisty, simple taper, mini taper, simple filigrana, perfect concentric dots, difficult flat twist, combating asymmetry, tough filigrana, simplified zanfirico and rich yet difficult zanfirico.
