Shane Fero 3 - Finding your Artistic Voice

For more than five decades, Shane Fero has developed a body of work that is instantly recognisable yet deeply personal, drawing inspiration from mythology, dreams, anthropology, nature, history and imagination.
 
Finding Your Artistic Voice is the third course in the Shane Fero series and explores one of the most challenging aspects of creative practice: how artists develop a personal visual language.
 
While the course includes demonstrations covering figurative sculpture, blown forms, mixed media, surface treatments and cold-working, its true subject lies beyond technique. Through a series of practical demonstrations and candid discussions, Shane shares the influences, experiences and creative decisions that shaped his own artistic journey.
 
This course is about learning how artists think.

Demonstrations include revisit of pulling points and blowing, Root Woman, a Black & Gold leaf Ornament, a Male Cavalier Figure, narrative constructions, mixed-media works, spirit vessels with bird or prey stopper and discussions surrounding Shane's own creative development. Throughout the course, students are encouraged not simply to reproduce forms, but to examine the interests, experiences and ideas that inform their own work.

Through demonstrations, conversations and reflections on his own career, Shane explores how personal interests can evolve into lifelong artistic investigations. Students encounter themes including mythology, dreams, symbolism, narrative, history and observation, while learning how artistic ideas develop over time.
 
The emphasis is not about reproducing Shane's work.

This course is fully subtitled, making it accessible for hard of hearing students and non-native English speakers.
 
Included with the course is a library of supporting material, including Zurich Glass School's hand-drawn visual technical maps, student guides, demonstration notes, reference diagrams, and supplementary learning resources. These materials have been specifically developed to help students revisit techniques and reinforce learning away from the torch.
