Where creativity calls

Detailed Course Description
Interpret Nature Through Glass Serbay Doru 3 is the culmination of Zurich Glass School's Beasties Series and is designed for flameworkers who are already comfortable with sculptural construction and wish to tackle larger, more ambitious projects. While Serbay 1 focuses on construction and Serbay 2 develops observation, Serbay 3 is about interpretation. Students move beyond simply recreating creatures and begin exploring how anatomy, colour, texture and structure can be combined to create convincing sculptural work inspired by the natural world. Throughout six detailed demonstrations, Serbay guides participants through increasingly sophisticated projects, including marine creatures, insects and botanical forms. Along the way students learn how to plan complex assemblies, work from scientific reference material, integrate multiple techniques within a single piece and solve technical challenges independently. This course places particular emphasis on: • Anatomical construction and observation • Complex multi-component assemblies • Structural planning and sequencing • Refined colour and texture application • Advanced surface decoration • Murrine integration • Independent problem solving • Working from scientific and natural reference material By the end of the course students will not only possess a larger technical vocabulary, but also a deeper understanding of how to analyse natural forms and translate them into glass. Serbay 3 is not simply about making more advanced creatures. It is about learning to think increasingly like a sculptor rather than a technician. Who Is This Course For? This course is designed for intermediate to advanced flameworkers who already possess a solid understanding of sculptural construction and are ready to undertake more ambitious projects. Students who have completed Serbay 1 and Serbay 2 will find Serbay 3 to be the natural next step in their development. However, experienced flameworkers with strong sculptural skills may also join directly. The Journey Serbay 1: How do I make this creature? Serbay 2: How does nature actually work? Serbay 3: How can I interpret nature through glass?
