The bottom is heavy so as the fuming sets (one for silver and one for gold) are stable as you use them. The glass is quartz with a dimple in the top. The glass and pur silver or gold you are using are protected by the protective metal sheath that cover the set. Inside the heads of the kits is a handy unscrewable hollow knob which holds your extra silver and gold - Now there is no need to frantically wonder where you stowed your silver and gold anymore!
