Teaching exclusively online for ZGS we would like to present master lampworker Shane Fero from the USA. Shane Fero teaches flame chemistry, introduction to blowing and creating animals in soft and hard glass.
In back to basics Shane Fero will teach how to blow with tubing and work with solid glass in both soft and hard glass. No special equipment other than your normal lampworking torch is required and a set of hot fingers and a graphite reamer for opening bubbles.
What the course includes - 85% boro |15% effetre:
1. Flame chemistry - Flame neutrality, working in and around the flame, reduction, boiling the glass and making the flame work for you and the glass.
2. Centering points revisited - Pulling points properly and what to do if you mess it up.
3. Blowing small vases - Making small vases by setting up the point to blow the vase and the foot bubble:
a.) solidification of the point for separating the foot and vase bubble
b.) blowing vase shapes
c.) blowing the foot bubble and flaring it out
d.) finishing the top of the vase
4.) Blowing different shapes - 2 perfumers plus stoppers incl. bird stopper
a.) solidification of the point for separating the perfumer and the foot bubble
b.) blowing the perfumer shapes (two shapes)
c.) blowing the foot bubble and flaring it out
d.) finishing the top of the perfumer
e.) making the stopper of the perfumer
5.) Solid Birds
a.) setting up shapes and gathers
b.) establishing the body
c.) adding the head
d.) adding the tail
e.) adding wings
6. Solid Fish and marine animals - Making two fish types and a dolphin from start to finish.
7. Horse Making the horse from the toe to the head *Special Tools: Eye tool
What Shane is creating is tricky and takes A LOT of practice, logic, patience and an inquiring mind. This e-course is a stand-alone course that is complimented by our Shane Fero 2: Introduction to Blowing course and Shane Fero 3: Finding your artistic voice course. This Shane Fero 1 course will push your skill level and give you confidence in your own abilities and empower you to own other types of blown and solid sculpture.

One can work through this course of video tutorials at their own pace, but on average this course takes six weeks to complete. Skill Level: Beginner course but experience in flameworking or beadmaking is essential must have own torch.
